Niam values his control. He needs it to ensure he never makes a mistake again, that he never kills without meaning to. Life as a life-force feeding vampire isn't easy, especially not when you must feed or go insane. Niam doesn't like what he does, but he tries to make it as enjoyable for his victims as he can because if he doesn't feed then he will lose his sanity and risk causing great damage to everyone.

Kirstie Blake is a newly dedicated priestess and a business consultant. One night she is attacked, but rescued by Niam and for both of them an attraction flares that they can't and don't want to fight. When Kirstie insists on helping find the madman who raped her best friend, Niam knows she'll investigate no matter the danger to herself. When they end up searching for clues together, desire flares and they give in to the inevitable. Will they be able to find the madman before he gets Kirstie?

Ms. Tregarth weaves a compelling tale filled with intrigue, danger and desire so hot that you won't put the story down until you are finished reading. The world she has created for her Marauders is as complex as it is intriguing. One never knows what twist of fate lies ahead. I cannot wait to see what happens to the rest of the Marauders. With the love scenes hot and intense, and the urgency to find out what is actually going on and who is responsible, this story is good from the first word to the last.

On a side note, I was thrilled to see that as I read the characters didn't say a word in one language, and repeat it or say it's meaning in English immediately after. I find that to be distracting, especially as some publishing houses over do it. The Gaelic phrases that Ms. Tregarth uses were easy for me to infer the meaning by the way it was used, if I didn't know what the word meant. I really liked the dictionary/phrase list added at the end of the story for those who might not know the words. In fact, reading over the list before reading the story would be a good bet for those unfamiliar with the phrases the Marauders often use.
