Bonnie is an archaeologist in charge of her own dig in Armenia. It is a dream come true, and she knows she will find something to make her career. Everything points to this being the site of an ancient city, and she will be the one to uncover it.
The Watcher has been here for 1500 years. His only reason for being is to protect the land and the people on it. Meeting a sexy American archaeologist, and realizing that he doesn’t want to be alone any more isn’t part of the package.
I was excited to read this book from the moment when the heroine referred to pottery remnants as sherds not shards. Right off that told me that at least in the archaeology references, Ms. Jordan would be spot on. I hoped not to be disappointed in the rest of details, either.
I enjoyed watching Bonnie’s growth as she saw her partner and herself through newly opened eyes, and realized she wanted and deserved much better. She seemed to believe in the paranormal aspects presented to her rather quickly, but given the evidence presented to her, perhaps most people would have. I think I would have liked this book better as a longer, more drawn out story so we could have seen the relationship between Bonnie and the Watcher grow. As it was, though, I still found it very enjoyable.
