Jane remembers the violence of the Guard when they rode through her
village last year and she is determined not to get chosen as a bride
for the king. Even with all she does to disguise herself when she
shouts in her mind at them to leave, one hears her mindspeak. They
take her with them and explain that she will be the King's bride.
How can she marry a king when she's fallen in love with a guard?
Happily Never After is a delightful read. Jane is a wonderful
heroine full of spice. She doesn't take too kindly to her fate and
lets Ryn know that loudly and at every opportunity. The ending was a
pleasant surprise. Even though I suspected what was going to happen,
it was still a terrific ending to a terrific story.
