It's tough to get a break in Hollywood, and as if long days, low pay and the casting couch system weren't bad enough, Felicia's just seen a top Director shot dead before her eyes. Running from the scene, the city's soon abuzz with her involvement - worse, with her torn skirt and panicked expression, witnessed soon after the event.
Thankfully, Detective Sean O'Rourke isn't going to let that big bad town harm a hair on Felicia's pretty little head. He knows a good woman when he sees one, and he knows there's nothing on this world that would make her lift a gun and shoot someone. It's a good thing he's on her side: with stalkers following her every move, it looks like Felicia has gained herself at least one enemy in tinsel town.
This was one of the better shorts I've read. Well-written, the pacing is fast but not furious, with sharp characters and a snappy plotline. The romance between the two likeable leads is light and well balanced against the main story, and the 1940's setting lends a silver-screened ambience to the story, without dominating the writing with historical detail.
Recommended.
