Legal secretary Veronica 'Ronnie' Peale is about to hit thirty. Her love life is as arid as the Gobi and she longs for her boss, Paul Lang, to notice her as a sensual woman. Then Ronnie's glamorous best friend Kayla steps in with a plan to make Paul notice her – she 'loans' Ronnie one of her own male friends, a hunky escort called Brant Coleman. By her reckoning, Paul will soon be seething with jealousy as he watches Brant seduce Ronnie – and then Paul will rush to claim her for himself. Ronnie thinks it's a crazy, deceitful idea – until it starts to work…
But Brant isn't just a pretty face. He's an insurance investigator on the trail of a pair of valuable earrings that have been stolen – and evidence points to them being in Ronnie's possession. The best way for him to get close to her is to pretend to be her boyfriend. But what will happen when the lies start to unravel, and the games of pretend cease to be fiction and start becoming real?
Raine Weaver has done it again! Her stories are always a joy to read, packed full of wit, sparky characters, great dialogue, sizzling sex and an exploration of deeper issues that the average romance only skims over. Here it's pretence, deceit and betrayal, the enemies of any relationship. Brant's jaded cynicism contrasted well with Ronnie's innocence, and Ronnie's journey of self-discovery to become a highly sensual creature was immensely enjoyable. All the characters were incredibly realistic from their very first introduction, and I loved every page of this fantastic book.
