Tavoli is trapped in the Underworld, but he longs to find his destined mate, Carmen. In order to go to the mortal plane, he agrees to give Hades the other half of his soul if he should fail to win her affections. As a half-demon, half-vampire, he will then become one or the other – and he'd much rather be a vampire.
Carmen is a singer at the Hell's Gate Casino with an ex-boyfriend intent on reclaiming her, and her best friends Brillasse and Ike are demon-hunters who share a long history with Tavoli. When Tavoli saves her from her violent ex, she begins to fall for him – but will she still trust him when the truth is revealed?
This is the second in 'The Portal' series, but can be read as a standalone as the author introduces the characters and explains previous events. While the sex scenes are enjoyable and plentiful, the plot is thin and undemanding, as are the characters. An error the publisher might want to rectify: the page header titles read 'Travoli's Claiming' as opposed to the cover title of 'Tavoli's Claiming'.
