Australian traveler Fleur has come to Whitby on England's east coast to set up a bookshop cafe for the summer, in order to get over a miserable two years when she was fighting breast cancer. Patrick is a divorced restaurant owner who lives nearby, and for both he and Fleur it's an instant attraction. Fleur is wary of being with a man again after her chemo, but Patrick is persuasive. When a death in the family takes Fleur back to Australia, can her relationship with Patrick survive, or was it just a summer romance?
I liked this book immediately. Fleur was a warm and lovable character, while Patrick was sexy and supportive with a lot of charisma. And the supporting cast, especially Rachel and Courtney, were fabulous. As a frequent visitor to Whitby, I enjoyed reading the romance between Fleur and Patrick against familiar backdrops such as the moors and the abbey. The 'stranger in a strange land' genre has a lot of appeal and this is an excellent example. I only have one question – the next time I'm in Whitby, where can I find Donnelly's restaurant?!
