In the last few years of economic doldrums, many people have opted to use their accrued vacation time to simply relax – they call it the “stay-cation”. The most important piece of equipment in their home becomes the couch. That may or may not recharge your batteries; it certainly isn’t conducive to losing weight.
More or Less?
Logic would dictate that life is too short to burn up vacation days that way. There is too much to see and do out there, in terms foreign and domestic. In fact, if you plan your vacation properly, you may even be able to come home a few pounds lighter than when you left!

Even when people do travel, they often hole up in a resort hotel and do nothing more strenuous than stroll down the hallway to the ice machine. Places out West such as the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone or Yosemite will ensure a good amount of hiking.
If one goes to Jamaica, one can rent a bicycle for next to nothing, and explore the lush mountain foothills for an experience that motorized vehicles can only cheapen. And any European trip will include a great deal of “hoofing it” – in many instances it’s the only option. Avoiding a sedentary vacation will put you, or keep you, on the path writing your own weight loss success story.
