When the midnight oil's been burning and your brain
feels fried, isn't it nice to recharge it? You don't want to leave your
muse to sleep, but how do you give yourself a wake up, or a surge of
focus?
This month, we talk about Halloween and all the
traditions associated with it. Trick or treat, candies and drinks, all
part of the festival traditions. Food is a large part of our holidays.
What helps you, though, when caffeine fails? Here are some foods to help
you get back on the writing path again.
For those days when you can't wake up, an apple will
wake you faster than a shot of caffeine. That being said, if you're a
caffeine junkie like me, you have to have your fix or in come the shakes
followed by the headache. Most of the time, it's the bitter taste of
coffee, rather than the caffeine that causes you to open your eyes wide.
So, next time you need to wake up, try an apple. Leading research from
the University of Massachusetts also show that apples aid in memory
retention and learning. An apple a day...
If the ideas are spinning around inside your head, but
you've lost focus, a small piece of dark chocolate is the ticket. It's
bursting with nutrients your body needs. The combination of caffeine,
antioxidants, and delicious taste combine to create a wonderful snack
for that writing crunch.
To prevent sugar lows and spikes, both of which can
destroy your concentration and leave you shaky, combine a carb with a
protein. An egg with toast, fruits with nuts, etc. Protein balances the
sugar spike of the carbohydrate. The carbohydrate gives you energy. They
work as a great team to keep your brain working in the overload you put
it under.
Food is the best energy source for our bodies. Treat
your body well. Enjoy some delicious snacks and fall into the worlds you
create.
