ER - If you have an alias or pen
name, what is it?
Cyn - Cynnara Tregarth. Close to my real name,
but different. LOL
ER - Tell us about yourself?
Cyn - I'm me. Nothing major. A Pagan, a divorced mom
of three and living in the slightly neurotic area known as the Penis…..I
mean Florida, I've been writing professionally for 4 years now. I sold
my first book in Oct of 2003 and I've not looked back. I've spent many
months reading about writing, slowly bringing things together and on
weird days, I even do workshops.
ER - Anything special the readers
should know about you?
Cyn - I specialize in writing paranormal with erotic
tendencies. My stories are also very balanced between action/adventure
and the romance. If you're looking for something that seems plausible
but with a hot kick, that's me. LOL
ER - How long have you been
writing?
Cyn - Since I was 4, actually. But if you mean writing
professionally-since 2000. However, I've been published as a child for
my short stories, poetry and the like.
ER - Where do you typically find
your inspiration?
Cyn - *grins* Funny question to ask me. I find
inspiration everywhere. From movies to hearing about a cool story, to
even being given a challenge-inspiration comes how it comes. Sometimes
it's a phrase that sets off a story like for "Ride Me,
Baby." Or sometimes it's a name on a mausoleum… "Areta's
Blood." Inspiration hits and sticks with me until it's done.
ER - What genre do you write in?
Do you cross over to other genres? Is it harder or easier to stay in one
genre or to move back and forth?
Cyn - I write paranormal but I've been known to cross
over into SF or into fantasy. However, I usually write contemporary
paranormal mainstream stories. I find I always cross genres. There is
nothing like trying to figure out how to market your books and
realizing….Ummm… this is paranormal, fantasy, erotic romance. LOL
I move between genres naturally and don't find it hard to do. Sticking
to only one is actually harder for me.
ER - Who has influenced you in
your writing?
Cyn - I've had many authors who've influenced me over
the years. But if you mean in the terms of what I write-I have some
standouts. First-Mercedes Lackey. The first time I held her book, I
was young and I knew then….I wanted to have my name on a book, just
like her. Then there is Andre Norton, Terry Brooks (I loved the
Shannara series!), Margaret Weis, Tracy Hickman, Julie Leto, Lori
Foster, Nancy Warren, Janelle Denison, Sue Kearney, and many many
others. All have helped me to develop my own style and unique talent.
Piers Anthony is a wonder who reminds me that even fantasy can have a
huge sense of humour. Roger Zelanzy taught me how to make the
paranormal seem normal in the Amber series while also showing me how
to make parallel universes easy to understand.
ER - Are you doing any signing or
appearances soon?
Cyn - I'll be scheduling some author days on some
loops online and next year, I'm planning to be at the RT convention as
well as Writers Weekend.
ER - Do you have any advice for
aspiring writers?
Cyn - Yes. There are two main pieces of advice for
aspiring writers. First-keep writing to complete what you start.
Perseverance pays off. Second-know when to let something go and start
fresh. Sometimes you can write a story to death and not give it up
when it's not worth saving. Don't do that. Let it go and begin
something new-you'll grow better as a writer that way.
ER - Do you have a website or a
blog?
Cyn - I have both. On my website I do have my blog, so
feel free to chime in and post notes. *grins* My website is www.cynnara.com
and you can get to my blog direct at www.cynnara.com/blog
ER - Do you prefers fan
mail/email?
Cyn - I love email. I try to get back to everyone who
writes. Cynnara@cynnara.com
ER - Other than being a writer,
did you ever picture yourself doing anything else?
Cyn - Yes! Everything. I wanted to be a historian (I'm
trying to go back and get my degree in history and comparative
mythology!), an aerospace engineer, and an archaeologist. I realized
that by writing, I can do all of the things I dreamed of but without
the long time in school, though I do recommend having a good solid
education.
ER - If you had time off to do
whatever you like, what would you do?
Cyn - Vacation. I'd want to spend 6 months between
Egypt, Ireland, Belgium, and the UK. *sigh* I'd be SOOOOOOOOO happy.
ER - Is there a favorite author
you haven't met that you'd like to?
Cyn - I'd love to meet Terry Brooks in person. Or even
Lori Foster, though she and I have emailed on many occasions. LOL
ER - What books do you have out?
And do you have something new coming out? Where can they be purchased?
Cyn - I currently have *thinks and counts it out* 7
