Kim Knox/Kim Rees
Kim is a new author on
the e-publishing scene, with her first book coming out in
2006.
Your virtually intrepid
reporter caught up with her in a small bar on the
outskirts of cyberspace, to talk about lunch, and other
important matters...
The bar is dark, with smoke
stained lights revealing little in the gloom. A shadow shifts, and steps
forward...
"Kim
Rees?" This place makes me nervous.
I stop myself from folding my arms tight over my chest. "I'm
from Enchanted Ramblings? You said we could talk?"
She smiles. "What
you having…?" She catches the
barman's eye.
"IPA,
please."
"Pint
or half?"
"Whole."
She grins and looks back to the
barman. "And my usual."
I follow her to an empty booth,
slide onto the cracked leather and pull out my tape recorder. The barman puts
my pint and her Bud with a glass on the table.
"So."
Kim sits back. The old leather creaks. "What
d'you want to know?"
"How
about we start with something about you? Something people wouldn't know."
Green eyes fix on me before she
pours the beer into the half glass. Her mouth twitches. "I
have an obsession with impossibly attractive men."
She lifts the glass. "But then…
now I come to think about it, that could be common knowledge."
"So
your hero…"
She grins. "Oh
yes. Jake Penvenhan. Here." She
pushes a piece of paper across the table. "A…
taster… of him."
"I'm here with you,
Emily."
The softly spoken words
melted heat through her body. Her heart squeezed tight in her chest. She
made herself meet that deeply golden gaze, hardly believing the meaning
behind those words. She was just dumpy Emily-
The want, the desire there
pushed all other thoughts out of her head. She could only feel. Lips so dry
she had to run the tip of her tongue over… Jake's eyes blazed. Liquid fire
pooling low in her pelvis and the aching need to run her fingers over the
perfect, perfect curve of his bottom lip; to find the inner heat of his
tongue…
"Why?"
Damn. Mouth working without
the benefit of her brain again. But she watched, fascinated, as a smile
pulled at that perfect mouth. It was impossible to focus on anything else.
Just the idea of kissing Jake… She had to taste him; feel the slight rasp
of his stubble under her searching mouth; nibble, bite at that perfect lip-
"Because your eyes are
eating me alive." His eyes flicked away and then came back. "We'll
continue this very interesting discussion later," he murmured. "I
promise."
"So…"
Kim looks towards the bar, and so quickly, silently, I fold the paper up and
slip into my bag. "How do you
write? Do you have any set way of finding a plot, finding a character?"
Kim shrugs. "I
start with the hero. I usually write romance where the hero is the key.
Though, that does stretch to the fantasy I write, too. And then I have a big
fat notebook that I scribble ideas into until it starts to make sense. With
fantasy, I can use the Snowflake Method."
She smiles around her glass. "It's
not for everyone. But it does seem to work for more action based stories."
"Yes."
I remember my pint. I can't help the grin. "I've
heard the rumours. What are you working on now?"
"A
Merlin novella for a themed anthology."
Her eyes narrow. "As are you… I
have a half finished contemporary romance. And I'm in the planning stage of
another fantasy novel. I also have a partial with Luna right now."
She shrugs.
"Really
wish I could write faster."
I eye the bar. Did they have
nibbles? "So… your book's out…
when and with whom?"
"The
Billionaire's Seduction is out April 2006 with Triskelion
Publishing."
Her gaze rests on my bag. Damn. Thought she hadn't noticed. "And
that teaser you pilfered. It could change from the published book."
She grins. "Want
some lunch?"
"Is
it safe?"
"To
die for."
And I'm not sure how to take
that as she waves over the barman.
